Design Philosophy

Shuonya Nava Designs (SND) was established in the year 2011 as a full service multidisciplinary Architecture and Design studio. It is an emergent architecture and design practice, engaging seamlessly in a wide range of scales and types including furniture design, graphic design, interior space design and architectural projects which include private houses, cultural projects as well as landscape and urban planning.

The term Shuonya Nava comes from Sanskrit language and means number zero-nine. SND believes in an architecture rooted in life; as an integral part of every day life, a crucial part of the environment and cultural life as well as an ongoing process of material life of growth and decay. Our design process is drawn from an analysis of factors in order to achieve the next level of excellence.
Active integration of users, clients and specialists is a vital part of our process of breeding architecture. Constraints and economies are integral to life forms and we enthusiastically embrace them as generative forces. SND has developed a distinctive method to the development of contemporary architecture, with an emphasis on open spatial configurations, material transformation, refined detailing and craftsmanship.

Underlying themes in the work have focused on the conceptual use of building elements, modified with both traditional and digital techniques. Combining complex geometries with local materials through digital design and fabrication processes, the studio seeks to develop a new local vernacular that engages with the landscape.
SND is built on a consistent philosophy and set of values, producing projects which are situation specific rather than deploying a signature style. It treats rigorous craftsmanship which actively pursues the seamless merging of service provision and creative thinking. SNDs best skills lie precisely in this capacity to grow ideas out of constraints.
